Care & Maintenance?
VitraStone seals all sinks and surfaces at our facility with a deep penetrating sealer. They are stain resistant, but not stain proof. The sealer and the material itself provide a high degree of heat and scratch protection. Acids can etch stone surfaces, mustards, wines, and other vinigar based foods should not be left for prolonged periods.

Waxing your VitraStone sinks and surfaces is recommended monthly. Using a clear carnauba paste wax gives your sinks and surfaces a nice feel, and it gives you more time to clean up spills. After installation is complete, and after any seams have cured, then apply your first coat of wax, repeat wax coats for a total of three coats. Thereafter, wax monthly or as required. Most non-abrasive household cleaners, can be used to clean and maintain your VitraStone products.

To wax your sinks and surfaces: Apply clear carnauba (Trewax is a good one) paste wax with a soft cotton rag to your clean & dry VitraStone surfaces. Let sit for 5-10 minutes. Buff out with another clean rag to desired sheen. Feel free to call anytime for questions and assistance, we are happy to help.

Where does our recycled glass come from?
Our glass is pulled from the local Durango recycling center. It is crushed at the center and then delivered to the VitraStone facility. With the latest bid prospects VitraStone will recycle tens of thousands of pounds in 2007.

Where does our recycled fly ash come from?
Our fly ash comes from a Colorado coal burning power plant just a few hours north of Durango. It is processed with consistent results in color and pozzolanic reactivity. Fly ash is a bi-product of coal burning plants, millions of tons go to waste in landfills and flyash waste ponds every year.

Why ceramic cement?

The easy answer is because it not Portland cement and because it just works better. So what is wrong with using Portland cements. One, the production of Portland cement accounts for 7% of all Carbon Dioxide emissions from human resources (Headwaters Resources). Secondly, to achieve high strengths and design qualities suitable for interior applications such as sinks and countertops, additional products such as water reducers, plasticisers and acrylics are often added. These are chemicals that are not used in our proprietary blend of ceramic cements.
